HALESTORM's LZZY HALE On Next Album: 'We've Definitely Evolved'
September 18, 2014HALESTORM is currently recording its third album for a tentative early 2015 release via Atlantic. Frontwoman Lzzy Hale told Gearphoria about the pressure of following up 2012's "The Strange Case Of…": "We've definitely evolved. The one thing that has remained the same is that we're all perpetually 14 year old inside, so we're all very immature. That hasn't changed much. But the animal or monster of HALESTORM bas gotten bigger, and obviously there's more responsibility and also a little more on the line. But for the most part we've continued to do what we've always done, which is chase after whatever gets us excited."
She added: "The goal has always been to continue and see what happens next.
"We've had a lot of 'stop and smell the roses' moments lately, a lot of 'remember wbens' with each other.
"It blows my mind that not only are we making our third record on Atlantic Records, which is a feat in itself because we know so many bands that never make it to this one, so we're humbled by that, but also it has been 18 years since my brother and I started HALESTORM, so there are moments of 'Can you believe we're still doing this?' It's mind-boggling."
Hale also spoke about how she makes the transition from playing for a screaming audience while performing select shows around the country this summer to confining herself within the four studio walls.
"We're doing a couple of fly dates this summer to keep our chops up, a lot of fairs and festivals, but we're not on a consistent tour right now," she explained. "I actually love it. This is the first time we've done that, because usually we're either on the road or in the studio, and this has been both."
She continued: "It's extremely inspiring to step out of the studio and then step in front of an audience and remind yourself why you're making these songs. It gives you perspective about what you're working on in the studio. It's a different animal and I'm really enjoying it.
HALESTORM recently posted photos at Instagram from the studio in which the band is recording its third album. The photos show the various bandmembers working or hanging out in the studio, which seems to be located in some sort of former church.
"The Strange Case Of…" yielded two chart-topping rock singles in "Freak Like Me" and the Grammy-winning "Love Bites (So Do I)".
HALESTORM debuted two new songs — "Heartbreaker" and "Mayhem" — at shows in Tennessee and England this past spring.
The band will play shows in Baltimore at the end of this month before embarking on a longer U.S. tour that begins on November 11 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
